The #SaveOurChildrensRights campaign team is holding a drop-in Parliamentary meeting for MPs on Tuesday 7th September. We need your help to invite your MP to pop by.
The event is from 5.30pm-7.30pm and is being kindly hosted by Chris Coghlan MP, who has championed the issue.
It will hear from Chris himself as well as leading SOCR members, about why the Government’s SEND and EOTAS proposals will hurt children and young people with SEND and their families.
Our campaign supports the vision to improve inclusion and provision in mainstream schools, but removing or diluting existing rights is not necessary to do that. The main beneficiaries of moves to reduce Tribunal powers and cut parental choice will be local authorities; the same pubic bodies that routinely make unlawful decisions about SEND provision.

I am writing as a constituent to ask you to attend the ‘Save Our Children’s Rights’ meeting in Parliament on Monday 7th September, hosted by Chris Coghlan MP in Portcullis House, Westminster between 5.30pm to 7:30pm.
The Government plans to introduce new SEND legislation later this year, based on reforms proposed in the recent SEND consultation. I am deeply concerned that the proposed SEND reforms put children and young people’s existing legal rights at risk.
In particular, I am concerned about protecting children and young people’s existing right to the special educational provision and support they need, as well as their right to appeal when decisions about their education and support are unlawful.
These rights are essential safeguards for children, young people and their families. Removing or weakening them could leave some children without the support they need and make it much harder for families to challenge decisions that are unlawful.

Special Needs Jungle has published a number of articles on the current EOTAS consultation, which affects far more than just children who have SEND provision outside of school— it contains many more details for the rights at risk and it’s clear to us that the EHCP will simply be a placement document, with all provision written into an unappealable Individual Support Plan (ISP).
We must fight this, not only for our own children, but for children who are just starting school, and the generation to come.
